MLP SG-1: Daniel+Vala

Ma gave me a Pretty Parasol My Little Pony for Valentine's Day and said "Do whatever you want with it." Which is good, because I have two similar purple ponies already, and I wasn't all that enthusiastic about Parasol's look. XD

Daniel is made of the only boy-pony I ever had, Quarterback. I'd cut his hair short a long time ago (the long hair just didn't look right). I didn't think I would ever do more than that to him though, until I got the urge to customise Parasol into Vala -- then it just seemed *right*.

I used a terra cotta Tria marker to color Quarterback's blue-and-white hair brown (hence it looking a bit red in spots). I used the same marker to draw in his eyebrows. I also cut his tail into a bob and used the Tria on the fringe above his hooves. I used a black sharpie to colour Parasol's pink-and-white hair black, leaving a strip of white in her mane and tale, which I coloured with a yellow Prismacolour marker (Vala had a bleach-blonde stripe in her early eps). I also used the sharpie to thicken her eyelashes.

The SG-1 patches on each of them are made of felt and white acrylic -- Vala's is smaller than Daniel's. True, Vala wasn't a member of SG-1 when she was wearing that outfit, but I might make other clothes for her someday, and joining Daniel's "little Stargating Club" became very important to her.

Daniel's other symbol is a book (he does a lot of reading) with a pyramid on one page (he's an archaeologist) and "Dan" written first in Asgardian runes, and then in Ancient letters (he's a linguist). I also painted over his eyes (I didn't like the shape and they were too small). I'm not that happy with the paint job, but my hands aren't as steady as they used to be. *sigh* Vala's other symbol is a black heart with stars in it, a compass rose, and an "x that marks the spot" (she's a treasure-hunter/space pirate). They each have the Stargate symbol for Earth as their cutie symbols, with Vala's being over the heart that Parasol already had.

Each is wearing a crocheted grey band around a foreleg, to stand for the Kor Mak bracelets Vala used to join them together (they couldn't get very far apart, or it would kill them both -- she thought it would just keep him from running off with her half of a treasure they were seeking, and didn't know about the fatal side-effects).

I originally tried making Vala's outfit out of three different materials, but after the three tries I decided to draw it on with the sharpie instead. Daniel's black t-shirt under his BDU shirt is also painted on. I had to cut a slit in one sleeve of the BDU and sew on a small bead to used as a button, just to get it on him! XD His glasses are made of a long twist-tie from a toy package. Parasol came with a crown, which I painted with gold glittery fabric paint -- it reminded me of the scene from "Avalon, Part 2", when Vala lounged among the treasure and put that crown on. XD
