Slytherin Death Eater Case

Description

That should be "Slytrherin Death Eater Netbook Case" -- ran out of room. XD This is my last art project of 2009! :D

I got a netbook last weekend, but had nothing to keep it safe in while carrying it out & about. I'd been tempted to make a bag out of these two black fabrics I had, so yay, I finally found an excuse!

You can see one fabric, black with decorative grey lines, on the right-hand side of the bag, on the top. When I initially made the bag, it was a tad too small, and so when I "fixed" it by adding another panel, I didn't want to have to deal with lining up the second material, which is a fustian of sheer fabric spiders, bats, daggers, etc, with velveteen skulls & negative space. Still, the second fabric looks ab-fab over the first one!

I also lined this thing with material from a rain poncho, to keep it water-resistant, and it's got a double-layer of blanket for padding. So yeah, double all that and I was hand-sewing through at least 10 layers of frabric most of the time -- more in some cases! XD My fingers hurt with every keystroke here ....

Anyway, I sewed ribbon with wire in it down the sides, between layers, to secure them well for when I attach a strap.

The Slytherin shield is a thin foam covered over with a green velour. I used silver fabric paint and beads (with one red bead for the eye) to make the snake, and silver acrylic to paint the squiggly lines and the black border around the snake. The shield is secured in one corner by embroidery thread, and the rest of the way with hot glue, but only around the edges on the sides and bottom; the top has been left open as a pocket. Maybe when my fingers hurt less, I'll secure it a little better, LOL!

The way the bag is made, you put one flap over the opening, into the bag, and then pull the other flap over and button it closed. The buttoned side would be worn in, the Slytherin shield out. Inside the bag, I didn't sew one side of the blanketed pocket to the outer lining, figuring to make it a pocket for the power and charger cords.

I normally consider myself a Griffyndor, but seeing as a) I used silver ribbon for the sides, and b) the bag has skulls on it, when I decided it needed some decoration, Slytherin seemed the most likely choice -- it just screamed "Death Eater Draco at School!" to me, LOL. And since the netbook (which I call JARVIS) will likely contain my plans for world domination, it's doubly appropriate ....
